U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations call for new school buses to meet stricter emissions requirements beginning with model year 2007. The requirements call for reducing Particulate Matter (PM) emissions by 90 to 95%.  Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) and Non-Methane Hydrocarbons (NMHC) also will be reduced by an equal amount during a phase-in period from 2007 to 2010.

The US EPA has also directed that Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel be produced and available, beginning in the summer of 2006. The technology solutions for emission reduction requirements in 2007 and beyond are available today. And funding for retrofit programs is growing.
